Ali Affleck and The Copper Cats

the Jazz Bar, 1A Chambers Street, Edinburgh

Hot from an "Outstanding" run of sell out shows in the Edinburgh Festival, The Copper Cats are bringing their blend of New Orleans Jazz and Blues back to the Jazz Bar!

Enjoyed by swing and blues dancers - The Copper Cats perform cheeky songs associated with Bessie Smith, Mildred Bailey, Louis Armstrong and Ma Rainey and due to her 16 years living in the USA, award winning vocalist Ali has amassed an enviable collection of Jazz standards, along with some rare old Southern Blues - songs that are rarely heard outside of the Crescent City of New Orleans itself. With vocals described as “stunningly expressive” -San Diego Union Tribune and a razor sharp band of outstanding musicians, The Copper Cats offer up a fresh interpretation of early jazz and blues whilst remaining faithful to the meaning behind the songs.

" [...] this was a masterclass in real grassroots jazz in every sense of the word. It was a real privilege to witness a singer that channels Billie Holiday with so much charm and poise...Affleck’s high notes sparkled in Electric Chair Blues, and this was somewhere in old-school, downtown New Orleans. And that’s where I stayed for the rest of this gig." -Steve Griffin, Edinburgh 49

“I can think of no other young singer of Scottish Jazz who can deliver this kind of material with such authenticity and so swingingly as Alison- hence her award.”- Stephen Duffy- BBC Jazzhouse

The Copper Cats performed to a sell out show in the Edinburgh International Jazz Festival in July and received rave reviews in the Glasgow Jazz Festival in June.
